A week of artistic enrichment

As part of Embley’s Enrichment Week, students enjoyed a series of inspiring art workshops led by visiting artists and local crafters.

On Monday, students in Years 7 to 10 took part in a workshop with Winchester-based artist and illustrator Jenny Muncaster. Using acrylic paint on art board, they explored techniques including stencilling and water spraying to build layers of colour, pattern and texture. By the end of the day each student had created a vibrant and unique artwork.

Tuesday saw eight students attend a silver clay jewellery workshop where they learned how to transform silver clay into personalised pieces of jewellery. They were fascinated to watch their delicate creations become solid silver during the firing process, producing distinctive pieces that reflected their creativity and individuality.

On Wednesday, potter and ceramicist Sue Kelly challenged students to create 3D chickens from clay. Working from hollow clay forms, they added texture and colour using slips to bring their designs to life. The finished pieces will dry over the summer before being fired in Embley’s kiln in the autumn term.

On Thursday, students headed to Hengistbury Head in Dorset with sketchbooks and pencils to spend the day drawing and studying the dramatic coastal landscape.
