It’s been another exceptional year for Sport at Embley with more than 120 teams competing in over 600 fixtures this year, pupils have proudly represented the school across every age group and level of ability.
“From national success in hockey, netball, rugby and cricket to more than 30 pupils earning places in county squads, academies and talent pathways, these achievements reflect not only sporting excellence, but also the ambition, commitment and resilience of our students. We are proud of the breadth of opportunity available and of the way so many students have represented the school with distinction at local, county, regional and national level.”
Gareth Richards, Director of Sport
Here are some of our sporting highlights for 2025/26:
-
Rugby: Rugby has enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in recent memory. The standout achievement came from our U15 boys, who were crowned winners of the Continental Tyres Schools Cup National Bowl, securing a national title after an outstanding campaign. This represents one of the most significant sporting accomplishments in the school's recent history and is testament to the talent, commitment and resilience shown by the squad throughout the season. The same group also added the County Cup title to complete a remarkable double. Further success included County Plate champions at U16 level and County Bowl winners in U18 Rugby Sevens, alongside strong performances in regional and national competitions throughout the age groups.
-
Hockey: Eight students earned Hampshire selection with further representation at regional and club level, including three Solent Hockey players, one student involved in a Trojans side reaching the Supra League National Finals and another representing Havant in a Tier 1 national semi-final campaign.
Our U13A team were crowned Walhampton Festival champions, continuing a strong tradition of success in the sport
-
Netball: Our U14 teams won Cup and Plate honours at the Embley Tournament while our U15 squad reached the national finals of the United Learning National Netball Tournament, and the U16 side reached the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup. Several students have also progressed through regional and franchise development pathways.
-
Cricket: Our U17 boys reached the National Plate Regional Finals, while the U15 girls progressed to the last 16 of the national 100-ball competition. At county level, both U12 and U15 boys reached County Plate Finals. Four students were selected to represent Hampshire and Wiltshire at county level and one was selected to be a warm-up bowler for the Women's T20 World Cup.
-
Athletics: Our U15 girls were finalists in the Hampshire Schools Athletics Association Track Knockout Cup, while the U15 boys reached the semi-finals. Five students qualified to represent the Eastleigh and Winchester District at the Hampshire Schools Athletics Championships, and one athlete progressed to represent Hampshire at both the Inter-County Schools Competition and the English Schools Championships.
-
Sports tours: A particular highlight of the year was our Senior Sports Tour to Marbella, where 38 students enjoyed what was undoubtedly our most successful sports tour to date. The trip provided a fantastic opportunity for students to compete, train and develop as teams in an outstanding environment. More importantly, it created experiences and memories that will remain with them long after their school sporting careers have ended, strengthening friendships and reinforcing the values that make school sport so special.
